St Helens Announces New Youth Parliament Representatives Following Record Vote

St Helens Youth Council is proud to announce the election of its new Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) and Deputy Member of Youth Parliament (DMYP), following an incredible 4,168 votes cast by young people across the borough.

The MYP represents the voices of young people aged 11–18 at both a local and national level, including participation in the UK Youth Parliament and the opportunity to speak in the House of Commons. The role involves campaigning on key issues, engaging with decision-makers and ensuring young people’s views are heard.

The DMYP supports the MYP in their role, helping to deliver campaigns, engage with young people and step into the role when required, ensuring continuity and strong representation.

After a highly competitive election, St Helens is delighted to announce:

Lydia – Member of Youth Parliament (MYP)

Lydia has been elected as the new MYP for St Helens, following a powerful campaign focused on mental health and wellbeing.

Her campaign, Here and Now, centres around providing young people with practical coping mechanisms and support, including creative approaches such as music playlists, movement and accessible resources. Lydia is passionate about ensuring young people feel supported in the present moment, with a strong focus on prevention, awareness and accessible help.

Daniel – Deputy Member of Youth Parliament (DMYP)

Daniel has been elected as the new DMYP, following a campaign focused on crime awareness and supporting young people affected by domestic abuse.

Drawing on his own experiences, Daniel has worked to raise awareness of the early signs of domestic abuse and promote access to support. His campaign highlights the importance of education, safety and ensuring young people know where to turn for help.

The election saw young candidates engage with schools, youth groups and community organisations across St Helens, encouraging participation through assemblies, social media campaigns and outreach sessions. The result — over 4,000 votes cast — reflects a growing commitment to youth voice and democratic engagement in the borough.

St Helens Youth Council would like to thank all candidates, partners, schools and youth organisations who supported the election and helped make it such a success.

Lydia and Daniel will now begin their terms, working alongside young people and partners to represent the views of young people across St Helens and drive forward meaningful change.
