Community Comes Together to Light Up Halton at Inaugural Lantern Walk
Colourful lanterns illuminated Victoria Park, Widnes, as families, young people, and community organisations came together for the first-ever Light Up Halton event in February 2025.
Organised by Halton Youth Cabinet, with support from Vibe UK Programmes, GLOW LGBTQ+ Youth Club, and Vibe UK, the event celebrated community spirit while encouraging residents to come together for an evening of creativity, wellbeing, and environmental awareness.
The evening began with lantern-making activities, giving attendees the opportunity to design and create their own unique lanterns before taking part in a magical procession through Victoria Park. As darkness fell, the park came alive with a sea of lights, creating a memorable spectacle for everyone involved.
Light Up Halton was created to encourage positive community connections, celebrate local pride, and provide an opportunity for people of all ages to spend time together in a welcoming and inclusive environment. The event also highlighted the importance of caring for local green spaces and bringing communities together through shared experiences.
The success of the inaugural event was made possible by the incredible support of volunteers, partner organisations, and everyone who attended, bringing enthusiasm, creativity, and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening.
Halton Youth Cabinet would like to thank everyone who joined them to make the first Light Up Halton such a memorable occasion. The overwhelming response has inspired plans for the event's return, with young people already looking ahead to making next year's celebration even bigger and brighter.
Vibe UK is proud to support opportunities like Light Up Halton that empower young people to lead community events, strengthen local connections, and create positive experiences for residents across the borough.
