St Helens Youth Council Takes to the Airwaves with BBC Radio Merseyside

Young people from St Helens Youth Council (STHYC) took to the airwaves this week, as their newly elected Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), Deputy MYP (DMYP) and Chair were invited to be interviewed by BBC Radio Merseyside.

The visit provided an exciting opportunity for young people to represent their peers and share the work of St Helens Youth Council with a wider audience. During the interview, they spoke about the importance of youth voice, the impact of their recent MYP elections, and the key issues affecting young people today.

Discussions covered a range of topics including mental health and wellbeing, community safety, education and opportunities for young people, highlighting both the challenges young people face and the solutions they are passionate about driving forward.

The experience gave the young representatives a platform to confidently share their views, demonstrating the power of youth-led conversations and the importance of including young people in decision-making.

The interview will be broadcast on Thursday 30th April between 2–6pm, giving listeners across the region the chance to hear directly from young people in St Helens.

St Helens Youth Council continues to provide opportunities for young people to develop skills, build confidence and influence change — ensuring that youth voice remains at the heart of the community.
