Celebrating 70 Years of Cardiff–Stuttgart Partnership
Young people from St Helens Youth Council have played an active role in celebrating 70 years of city partnership between Cardiff and Stuttgart, taking part in an international youth exchange that highlighted the power of collaboration, creativity and youth voice.
As part of the celebrations, members of St Helens Youth Council joined young people from Cardiff and Stuttgart Youth Councils, contributing to a shared programme of activity focused on strengthening international connections and exploring the future of youth participation.
A key highlight of the exchange was involvement in the Urban Diplomacy Exchange (UDE) film project, a creative initiative designed to capture young people’s perspectives on city partnerships, youth voice and their hopes for the future. The project saw young people work collaboratively across borders, developing ideas, sharing experiences and bringing their visions to life through film.
The exchange took place across two countries, beginning with a visit to Cardiff where initial planning and collaboration on the film project took place. The group then travelled to Stuttgart to continue filming and take part in the official anniversary celebrations, providing a unique opportunity to experience both cities and their partnership first-hand.
Throughout the programme, young people engaged in meaningful discussions around identity, community and the role of young people in shaping the future of their cities. The experience not only strengthened international friendships but also highlighted the importance of creating spaces where young voices can connect and be heard globally.
The visit forms part of St Helens Youth Council’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for young people to engage beyond their local area, building confidence, broadening perspectives and bringing new ideas back to benefit their communities.
Members return to St Helens with new experiences, fresh inspiration and a strengthened belief in the importance of international youth connections.
