St Helens Youth Council Leads Inspiring 'Feed the Need' Event to Tackle Food Poverty
Young people from St Helens Youth Council (STHYC) took over St Helens Town Hall to deliver their flagship Feed the Need event, bringing together students, community organisations, and local leaders to explore practical ways of tackling food poverty.
The event, which was entirely planned, organised, and delivered by members of the Youth Council, welcomed students from schools across the borough alongside special guests including the Mayoress of St Helens and representatives from Hope Pantry.
Throughout the day, the young leaders shared the aims of their Feed the Need campaign before hosting a series of interactive workshops covering budgeting, the role of food banks, and smart shopping techniques to reduce food waste. The sessions encouraged attendees to think about the challenges many families face while providing practical advice on making food go further and reducing unnecessary waste.
The event concluded with an engaging Q&A panel, giving students the opportunity to ask questions, share their own experiences, and hear from local organisations working to support people affected by food insecurity.
Feed the Need was developed by St Helens Youth Council to raise awareness of food poverty and empower young people with the knowledge and confidence to make positive changes within their own communities.
