St Helens Youth Council Members Inspired at National Cumberland Lodge Residential

Four members of St Helens Youth Council recently returned from an inspiring weekend at Cumberland Lodge, where they joined young leaders from across the UK to explore how young people can turn their passion into meaningful social change.

Representing St Helens were Riley, Adrian, April, and Anja, who spent two days taking part in a series of thought-provoking workshops and discussions focused on leadership, campaigning, and creating lasting impact within communities.

The residential explored themes including Practising Power, Organising, Strategic Solidarity, and Creating Change, equipping young people with practical skills and fresh perspectives on how to build successful campaigns and influence decision-makers. The sessions encouraged participants to recognise the power they already hold and how collective action can drive positive change.

A key message throughout the weekend was that no young person is alone in the issues they care about. By connecting with others from across the country who share similar passions, participants gained new ideas, confidence, and motivation to continue making a difference in their own communities.

The residential also provided opportunities to build friendships, exchange experiences, and collaborate with young people from diverse backgrounds, creating a network of future changemakers committed to improving society.
