Vibe UK’s Ashlea O’Hara wins National Young Carer Award
We’re so proud to share that Vibe UK’s Ashlea O’Hara has won The Young Carer Award at the National Children and Young People Awards!
The award recognises Ashlea’s incredible journey with Vibe UK — from accessing our Me Time programme as a young carer, to becoming an Expert by Experience supporting others, and now working as a Youth Support Worker helping young people across Knowsley and Halton.
The Awards described Ashlea as someone who “exemplifies resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of lived experience,” praising her for inspiring and empowering others through her work.
Ashlea was also recognised locally at Knowsley Council’s meeting earlier this month, where she was congratulated by Cllr David Lonergan and presented with a Certificate of Achievement by the Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Ken McGlashan.
Paul Oginsky, CEO of Vibe UK, said:
“Ashlea is a remarkable young woman with a long list of qualities but at the top of that list is her kindness. We are delighted that she has been recognised with this national award. The world needs more people like Ashlea.”
Vibe UK Supports Young Carers at National Festival in Southampton
During the weekend of 27th–29th June, Vibe UK supported 14 young people to attend the Young Carers Festival in Southampton—a national event bringing together young carers from across the UK for celebration, connection, and much-needed respite.
Across the weekend, young people took part in a wide range of activities designed to inspire creativity, build confidence, and encourage self-expression. These included graffiti workshops, where participants embraced hands-on creativity, and music sessions that offered the chance to try new instruments. Festival-themed experiences such as hair styling and braiding added to the vibrant atmosphere.
A key highlight of the event was the youth voice hub, where young carers were empowered to share their views and feedback on the festival, as well as contribute ideas on how services and support for young carers can be improved nationwide.
The experience provided a valuable opportunity for young carers to take a well-deserved break from their responsibilities, connect with others who share similar experiences, and build friendships that will last long beyond the weekend. The smiles, confidence, and memories created reflect the true impact of the event.
This year also marked the first time Vibe UK attended in partnership with the Young Carers Assessment Team. This collaboration enabled additional funding, allowing more young people from Knowsley to take part and benefit from the experience—highlighting the power of partnership working in expanding opportunities.
Vibe UK is incredibly proud to support young carers and remains committed to creating opportunities that promote wellbeing, connection, and lasting positive impact.
