Halton Youth Cabinet Celebrated with Ykids Believe Award

Halton Youth Cabinet (HYC) has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the local community after winning the Famous Five Award at the Ykids Believe Awards 2026.

The Famous Five Award celebrates a group of young people who are making the world a better place, recognising their commitment to creating positive change within their communities.

Over the past year, members of Halton Youth Cabinet have led a number of impactful projects and campaigns, demonstrating the power of youth voice. Their flagship environmental campaign, Binimals, has transformed litter bins across Widnes and Runcorn into colourful, animal-themed installations, encouraging positive recycling habits and inspiring community pride. The group has also delivered the annual Light Up Halton event, developed accessibility and wellbeing campaigns through Access4All and Support4All, and represented the voices of young people at local, regional and national levels.

The award reflects months of dedication, teamwork and creativity from the young people involved, who have worked alongside local organisations and decision-makers to turn their ideas into meaningful action.

The award comes during an exciting period for HYC, who have also recently been shortlisted for a BBC Radio Merseyside Make a Difference Award, recognising the continued impact of their work across the region.

Halton Youth Cabinet is open to young people aged 11–18 from across Halton and provides opportunities to lead campaigns, influence local decision-making, develop new skills and make a lasting difference in their community.

As HYC celebrates this latest achievement, members are already looking ahead to the next chapter, with plans to continue expanding their environmental, accessibility and wellbeing projects throughout the year.
